Ancient Rome Tour: walking back in time

If you wish to join an Ancient Rome Tour during your stay in Rome, here’s an itinerary we recommend you!

What is an Ancient Rome Tour

This tour is one of the most popular activities in Rome. It shows you all the main sight of the Ancient Rome, traveling back in time through the centuries.
Both if you are visiting Rome for the first time or not, this walking tour leads you to the places where history was written – not surprised it is so popular.

The itinerary

Usually, we recommend you to start at the Colosseum, symbol of the Eternal City. Built in only 8 years (from 72 AD till 80 AD), it hosted several shows: from gladiatorial fights (munera) to mock hunts (venationes), from public executions (executiones) to naval battles. It could contain up to 70.000 spectators and the admission to the spectacles was free.
Worth a visit, isn’t it?

Since you are close to the Colosseum, you may also enjoy the Arch of Constantine, built in 315 AD to celebrate Constantine’s victory against Maxentius. It is one of the three triumphal arches still existing in Rome (in the past they were 36).

It is not a real Ancient Rome Tour without a visit to the Roman Forum! It was the centre of political, economic, religious and social life in Rome. Even though it still preserves the original structure, through the years each emperor wanted to add his personal touch enlarging it.
After that, you may also want to explore the Palatine Hill, where twin brothers Romulus and Remus battled over the founding and ruling on the newborn city of Rome

Usually, the Ancient Rome Tour ends on the top of the Capitol Hill. It is the smallest of the Seven Hills of Rome and from there you can enjoy an amazing view of both the Forum and the Colosseum. Originally it was the acropolis of the first Roman Village, but nowadays the square, designed by Michelangelo, hosts the Capitoline Museums, the first public museum of the world.
